Hex Planter v2

A printable hexagonal planter with a hidden drainage tray, now on its second revision after a summer outdoors.

CompleteCompleted 2026-07
Printer: Bambu Lab H2DPETGStainless steel mesh

Why a second revision

Version one sold out over a summer and came back with three cracks, all in the same spot: the corner where the tray clip met the wall. The fix was not more plastic — it was less. V2 moves the clip inward by 6 mm and adds a radius so the load spreads across the facet instead of concentrating on the seam.

What changed

  • Clip moved 6 mm inward and filleted
  • Wall thickness reduced from 2.4 mm to 2.0 mm to cut print time
  • Drainage slots widened to 3 mm so they do not clog with perlite
  • A flat spot added to the base for a label

Testing

Six planters spent the summer on a north-facing balcony in direct sun: two black, two stone white, two orange. All six survived 41 °C days without warping, and the black ones held their colour best.

The current store listing is this revision. The original files stay archived so I can compare if anything else fails.
