A first look at the Bambu Lab H2D

Two weeks, forty prints and one clog later — what the H2D is actually like to live with in a small workshop.

The short version

The H2D is the first machine I have owned that feels like an appliance rather than a project. Two weeks in, it has printed forty parts with one clog and zero failed first layers after the plate wash.

What stands out

  • First layer consistency — the bed mesh is fast and repeatable across the whole plate.
  • Multi-colour without tantrums — the AMS has jammed twice, both times because I loaded filament badly.
  • Noise — quieter than the Prusa at the same speed, which matters in a shared house.
  • The slicer — opinionated, and mostly right.

What I do not love

The footprint. This is a big machine and it has taken over the bench. Spares are not cheap either, and the ecosystem quietly encourages you to stay inside it.

Verdict so far

For a workshop that sells parts, the time saved on setup and failed prints is already paying for the machine. I would not recommend it as a first printer, but as a third one it is excellent.

Buy the machine for reliability, not for the spec sheet.
